The municipality of Dymi has fraternization with the city Acaja or Acaya in South Italy, for the last 13 years.

This city belongs to the term of reference of Apoulia, at the Province of Lecce, Vernole.

The city constitutes the first city-fortress in Italy and the unique, in the whole South Italy. It's a city (1535 A.C.) built according the models of an "ideal" city-fortress, which is fortified with cannon-shots, of Renaissance.

1. It is monument of Renaissance and from 1535 A.C. took the name Acaya from the French horsemen who started from Peloponnese (K.Achaia) under the commands of the French price Karlo D'Anzio and possessed the city. (Until the 15th century, it was called by the Romans Saxina or Sesina, from Latin Saxum-i =Stone, abrupt - obviously because of the stony ground of the area)

2. The last 30 years, there was a big demographic problem and there was a visible danger of desolation of the city. That was because of the prohibition of every private building activity.

3. In nowadays it is attempted a renovation of the medieval buildings and it is predicted the substitution of the asphalt from chalky plaques. The prime aim of the city is to be urbanized by establishing various services.

4. The only cultural club is the one of "Acaya". The A.S.S.A. (Associazione per la salvaguardia e lo sviluppo di Acaya) is occupied with the renovation and development of the citadel of Acaya. With the effort for the achievement of this goal, it organizes cultural shows, educational courses. (Courses for the dance "pitsika", traditional kitchen etc) By the co-operation with the communal authorities and private companies, it organizes and materializes social-cultural exchanges with countries from central-eastern Europe.

5. An innovative idea for the oncoming meeting of the 2 cities: a presentation from Italian of a dictionary, which will include Italian-Grikan-Greek language and will be sent before Easter.

   • 26-01-1989 : B' letter of A.S.S.A. (President m.Antonio Carlino)

   • 20-09-1989: Representation of Acaya in Kato Achaia

   • 12-16/09/1990: The formal ceremony for the fraternization of Acaya

   • 22-27/05/1991: Completion of the fraternization with official ceremony in Kato Achaia

   • 12-16/09/1992: Representation of Acaya at the cultural shows (Dymaia) in Kato Achaia-Freemen: De Giorgi, Ant. Fasiello

   • 25-30/09/1992: The Commercial Club of Kato Achaia at Acaya

   • 10-15/09/1992: Representative of Acaya in K.Achaia (Mario Mangione)

   • 1-6/09/1993: Representation of K.Achaia (St. San Oronzo's celebration)

   • 14-16/06/1994: m.Karabellas and m.Damalas become freemen of Acaya

   • 16-18/06/1994: B' meeting between Greece-Italy. At this meeting, which was held in Bova-Marina, the action of the two cities (Acaya-Kato Achaia) was performed. Furthermore the comments about the Greek representation and its innovator suggestions were very appreciative.

   • 6-7/09/1995: Visit of m. Antonio Fasiello in Kato Achaia

   • 3-5/10/1995: Representation of Acaya at the International Meeting for the Ancient Dymi, in Kato Achaia

   • 06-10-1995: Visit of m. Mario Mangione, m. Antonio Fasiello, Leo, Nino and Walter Paritti in Kato Achaia

   • 26/9 - 2/10/1997: Representation in Italy

   • 14-/05/1998: Our Mayor m. D. Gotsoulias at the funeral of the communal council Walter Paritti

   • 21-28/08/1998: Representation of Acaya and Vernole at the cultural shows "Dymaia" in K. Achaia

   • 1-4/09/2000: Representation of Dymi in Acaya for the 10th anniversary of the fraternization
