The
new municipality of Dymi is an area with great history, many natural beauties and a continuant tourist development. It came from the unity of the following smaller communities: Kato Achaia, Eleochori, Agiovlasitika, Petrochori and Niforeika all of which have their history and beauty.
The municipality of Dymi is on the west section of the county of Achaia. Its surface is about 71.553 sq. m. From east it borders on the municipality of Vrachneika, southeastern with Olenia, western with Movri while northern it has the Patraikos Gulf. In the biggest part of the municipality someone can meet flat areas but the southeastern area is semi-mountainous.
The population according to the census in 2001 is 10.955 habitants. The 47% from this number lives at the coastal area. A characteristic of the rapid development of the population is the fact that it has been almost doubled the last 20 years (1981-2001).
It is estimated that the total population of Dymi during the peak season (summer) comes up about 17.000 habitants.
The city of Kato Achaia, 22 km far from Patras, with a population of 8.000 habitants, is the commercial, cultural and administrative centre of the area. Thanks to the Local Authorities its development is too rapid (biological cleaning, draining network, improvement of the water-supply and the beach, embellishment of the whole area).
In a 4 km length there are the beaches of the area:
Niforeika, Alikes, Kato Achaia's, Alissos with their lovely and clean sea, the coastal hotels, the fish-houses and the restaurants.
There are also two tourist hotels and many beautiful shops and restaurants in the city of Kato Achaia.
As far as it concerns the beach of Kato Achaia, the biggest part of the population goes there to swim and have fun because it's the biggest one and the distance from Patras is only 22 km. Furthermore, the very good street network makes it easily accessible.
Finally many hotels and other tourist facilities are operated in the area so the tourist action is big by all nationalities.
